I'm betting you mean to the catch at 90 degrees but just clarifying. Aluminess is too expensive to be surprised. You can go almost to 180 but not quite with the Aluminess carrier. It will go almost to 180 around itself until your tire hits and cracks your taillight lens.

Okay... What's the trick?
There is a stainless steel catch on the retainer that limits all the cargo swinging doors opening to 90 degrees.
Before Release

If you depress the stainless steel clip, then push up on the retaining bar, it will come off of the post and this will allow you to open the door until it meets another physical obstacle. All the swinging doors in the cargo area have these.
After Release
Awesome. Thanks.

And then you can slide the retainer bar almost fully inside the door to get it out of the way if you want...

This trick makes it a lot easier to load 4x8 sheet goods in a cargo van.

Re: Aluminess rear tire carrier or under van? Some question

With my 2006 SMB Transformer w/ Aluminess rear bumper and tire carrier you definitely had to release the clips to load 4x8 sheet goods. I did it quite often. The tire arm had enough offset to swing way clear on the body and tail lights. I am not sure about just the tire carrier without Aluminess bumper but I would assume they designed it the same way. My 2009 does not have the clips in the door but swings to the full 90 degrees without releasing anything.

Re: Aluminess rear tire carrier or under van? Some question

I used the 'trick' at lowes this weekend. Didn't really have to, but did it just 'cause I could.

Thanks.
