Best Manual Hubs?

O.K. I may be fishing for the best manufacturer of manual hubs not only for the van (when I need to replace the ESOF in the future) but also for my Bronco which needs them now...

There has been some concern on the 7.3L PSD forum (ford-trucks.com) that the Warn quality has slipped. Primarily that there is a plastic retaining ring which causes problems.

I don't care about name brand, just function and longetivity.

Hopefully this discussion will also help others.

BajaSportsMobile: Good news is that Yukon Gear seem to sell lockout hubs for our E350's but bad news is that they don't seem to sell them for Bronco's newer than 1992...

For the Bronco it is just a standard Dana 44 Hub - they sell them - we use them on a race Bronco.

Re: Best Manual Hubs?

Thanks! Just called Yukon and yes they make them for the Bronco, and there is a conversion kit for my 3-bolt application.

However, because of my limited needs (I don't rock crawl or race) and the added expense for what looks like a bullet proof product, I think I will pass on the Yukons and go with the premium (but no doubt lesser quality) Mile Marker #104 stainless for the Bronco for $85 for the pair of hubs and $40 for the pair of conversion kits (since my auto hubs are 3-bolt - not needed if yours are 5-bolt).

But for you guys who hardcore rock crawl, you may want to check out Yukon:

http://www.yukongear.com/

For my Bronco application they were:

Yukon Hardcore Locking Hubs: YHC70006 $340.68

Conversion Spindle Kit: YPW32720 $36.28

Finally, here's a review, but since it is Pirate4x4 I must include a PG13 warning:

Re: Best Manual Hubs?

From Dynatrac:
http://www.dynatrac.com/products/freesp ... naloc.html
I have a set of Warn premium manual locking hubs 30 spline to sell, they were installed and barely used (I replaced them with 35 spline when I had Dynatracs free spin hub kit installed), they fit my 2003 SMB with a 2003 Dana 60 front end. Anyone interested? will post it up in classifieds one of these days, price?

We can surely upgrade to these for the cost differential, but honestly, I don't think they are needed in Van applications. They are really intended for hardcore, thus the name, off-roading.

Our conversions include Warn Premium Hubs. On some of my own vans I actually am using the Ford Factory Hubs that came with the cores we bought - I think they are pretty good hubs.

Re: Best Manual Hubs?

Hi,

I recommend the Yukon hubs as well. I've had Warn hubs on other trucks, but gave up on them with this latest project. The Yukons are steel throughout and fail in the locked position so you can still make it out of the bush. The instructions are a little fuzzy, but a few practice attempts at assembly and all is made clear.

Regards,

Gavin
