Tom,
The max height is 21". Here's a pic of the jack under my SMB (285 tires). I should have measured the distance between the saddle and the axle tube, but IIRC it's a few inches. Might be tight to get the jack under the outside edge of the axle tube with a full flat. Probably while I still carry a standard bottle jack.

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
Herb, great picture, and I think I'll be carrying the whimpy bottle jack just to get The Van far enough off the ground to get the real jack underneath.
thanks
Tom

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
I have a 3 ton bottle jack that I would never use by itself. Difficult to get under the axle if the wheel is in a hole and it is inherently unstable. I use a 1.5 ton floor jack (craftsman) to get under the axle only after I have taken off some of the weight with a HiLift jack. I also carry a few pieces of 2X8 wood to put under the jacks, tires, or if I am really stuck I can have a camp fire while I think about how to get out of the particular mess.

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
Where do you like to position the HiLift? I have stock bumpers and use a HiLift adapter hook. I've thought of fabing some kind of jacking plates for various locatons..any thoughts? I've used the bottle jack/HiLift combo twice..no fun regardless.

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
Good question, I have stock bumpers too, I didn't think the stock bumpers would handle the weight of The Van with a Hi Lift jack.

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
I ordered one from www.toolsmithonline.com. $39.94 out the door including shipping.
Tractor Supply hasn't made it out our direction yet...

Re: Bottle Jacks and changing tires
I have lifted the rear off the gound on a flat, level, hard surface but it isn't very safe or stable. My bumper has a stamp on it that says it is capable of towing 5000# with a tongue weight of 500#. It's very heavy duty and built well. My van isn't a full SMB conversion so it doesn't weigh as much as many. About 8500# +/-

I tried it once out of curiosity.... It will work, though it is very hard, and your bumper will never look the same again.
