Brakes Question

My brakes started acting up the other day. They seem fine for the first few minutes of driving, then suddenly the pedal is rock hard and braking power is pretty much non-existent. Is that indicative of a booster failure?

its a 2000 e-350

Brakes Question

Could be a vacuum pump if you have a diesel.

Re: Brakes Question

Or a vacuum leak, or pinched hose to the vacuum booster.

Pull the vacuum hose off the vacuum reservoir. If you hear a big whoosh from air rushing in, you have vacuum and probably a bad booster. More likely, you will hear nothing because there is no vacuum. Then you have to find out why.

- Power to the Vacuum pump (diesel only)

- Vacuum leak

- Pinched hose

- ??

Re: Brakes Question

If its a powerstroke, it is a belt driven vacuum pump. Just had to replace mine.
