So then what would be my options for disc brakes on this rear end? The sellers says that it is a 9.75 with a 3.55 LSD. It is a 5 bolt axle.

Would it be possible to just put all the disc hardware on this axle housing? Was only wanting to swap out the whole axle assembly to get something a little stronger but looks like I already have that little something extra from what I thought I had.

I think all of the 2000+ E150 axles are the 9.75” until the Dana go in ‘07. I don’t think a drum to disc conversion is really worth the trouble considering how easy an axle swap is.

Would be nice to have the entire axle on a bench and go through everything including the brakes. Then just replace the whole shebang.

From what I've been finding it looks like the 4.6 got the 8.8 and the 5.4 got the 9.75

That would make sense. Brakes must be shared though. I didn’t see a brake parts breakdown by axle for those years.

If the purpose is stopping, rear brakes do not do much....If you convert to bigger rotors and calipers on the front, that would be an improvement...you can upsize providing your wheels accommodate it...In about 2008 the stock vans upsized the front brakes..Could also look at better rotors for the front as a way to nibble at it....
