Chevy AWD- lifetime, clearance and reliablity?

Looking at a 2006 Chevy Express HD1500 AWD Van here, but I don't know anything about the Chevy AWD systems. Main question is how long are they expected to last? I can find plenty about the 5.3L engine, but nothing about the lifetime of the AWD- that's either good or bad.

Second, what is real-world clearance and capability? I'm of course used to massive tires and transfer cases, but my wife's Volvo is extremely capable. In the Chevy van, what can one really expect to make it through?

Re: Chevy AWD- lifetime, clearance and reliablity?

FWIW we have a couple in the fleet and they haven't had any problems. I think they're about 5 or 6 years old and really have the miles put on them. The vans do better than I thought they would in sand with street tires. The guys like them for the ride alone over the Fords.

Re: Chevy AWD- lifetime, clearance and reliablity?

Just a little FYI In 05 they made a 2500 series awd cargo. I have only seen a couple. I have been looking for an awd express for a work van myself. I thought it was on here but maybe it was another forum where someone installed a new process t-case it appeared to be a fairly simple swap.
