Chevy Express 4x4 Van project...

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little help. I've been lurking around this and other forums for info. I've been looking for adapters, namely....4L80E transmission to NV271 transfer case. I've started gearing up to do a 2006 Chevy Duramax Express Van w a dana 60 front, 4linked with King coilovers. I've got most everything handled but the transmission to transfer case adapter. I know theyre made but cant find who's doing them.

Can anybody help me?

thanks,

dave

Re: Chevy Express 4x4 Van project...

Are you referring to the transmission tailshaft? Not sure about your adapter plate search. If your doing a 4x4 conversion you need a different transmission, or more specifically a different tailshaft to the 4L85E(you have straight cut gears in your transmission which makes it a 4L85E and not a 4L80E). Tailshaft housings aren't hard to find but your most likely gonna have to take your transmission apart to get it put on. You can rebuild your tranny at that point or just buy a 4x4 4L85E online or something and sell the one you have now.

You have any pics of your rig? I've got a 06 Duramax that I'll be converting to 4x4 here soon but doing a IFS set-up. Not too many Chevy's around here.

Re: Chevy Express 4x4 Van project...

well...the issue is getting a manual shift transfer case into the van. The GM NV263 is an electronic shift and a weaker unit. I've spoke to 3 different companies that covert Express Vans to 4wd and they all use a manual shift 271 transfer case. Its funny you say that I have a 4L85E, I bought the van brand new in 2006 and i still have the window sticker and it states its a 4L80E. I've heard some d-max vans have 4L80s and some have 4L85s. I dont know the breakoff month...but i've heard some 06 s have 80 and some have 85s.

I'll keep you posted on my project...i've seen you van on another forum and its coming out great. i've taken a few of your ideas and i'd like to incorporate in my project.

The 4X4 4L80E has a 32 spline output shaft and the NV271 has several different inputs (23, 24, 29, 31 and 34) depending on original application but not 32 spline. Your best solution is to use a 32 spline NP241.

There ya go!! I didn't know that some of the Vans had the 4L80E. Well seems like you have you work cut out for you, if you can't get your answers here try Performancetrucks.net. There's a lot of brain power on that forum, if you can attract the right members of course!! Lol

Best of luck and cool Van, look forward to seeing it after the conversion!
