Dana 60 New U-Joint Play

Hello,

Building my E350 into a 4x4 right now. I’m assembling the half shafts of the front Dana 60 and it seems I was sent the wrong type of u-joints. They are very loose once installed on the half shafts. I bought a whole kit for rebuilding the axle and everything else fits properly.

Can someone advice if this is right?

That is clearly wrong. Are the caps pushed in as far as they supposed to be? I have never been inside that ujoint but on the drives shaft ujoints I have rebuilt there is typically a snap ring which retains the bearing caps and they are in farther than your video shows.

They definitely sent me the wrong part. It should have been a Dana/Spicer SPL70-4X. That’s why it’s so loose. Everything is seated where it should be.

Yes, the SPL70-4X should be the correct joint.

The 2016 F350 got the larger knuckle joints that were previously only in the F450/550. Then '17+ they stuck with the larger stuff on the lighter rigs. Another instance of Ford's confusing and convoluted parts strategy. I do take notes though and when something like this comes up, I add it to the library of data.

Thanks for confirming MG, definitely a bummer as I’m stuck waiting for parts again. Everyone keeps telling me they are the right size, but they’re definitely too small.
