Finally finished my conversion, check out the new van.

After many months of research, spending, frustration, and some joy. I finally have a 4x4 sportsmobile. Still working out a few bugs like speedometer, ABS, and bump stop height. But for the most part it's a finished project. So far I'm very happy with how it all came out.

For those who are interested in some of the details I'll be posting more pictures and details at this site. www.sportsmobile4x4.blogspot.com

Now it's time to go break things.

Tom.

Blog looks good. Where did you get that rear spare tire rack?

BTW, I'd suggest left-justifying the text in the blog. Centered just looks wrong, makes it hard to read.

It looks great Tom! Also, I enjoyed reading your blog. What type of "shifter" do you have inside the van to engage 4wd? Also, do you have manually locking hubs (sorry if I missed that part in your blog)?

Enjoy your new freedoms.

Lowracer,

The rack is factory Ford or maybe Sportsmobile. You are welcome to it if you are willing to pay shipping and handling. One of the arms is rounded and cracked. Looks like it filled with water and froze. Doesn't seem to effect integrity though. I'll try the left justification just for you.

The shift lever is from the Superduty, but modified to work. Hubs are factory Ford manual locking.

Tom,
Thanks for the offer of the rack. Looking at it, I don't think it will fit my Dodge...

The 4x4 looks great. If I had to do it all over I would do the 4x4 myself as well. What's up with your penthouse top? Looks like it has something added to it. What is it?

That is the solar array. Look under the topic electrical/solar panels, I just put up a picture. You can also find it in my album.

Garage
Tom,
quick ? regarding the spacers you installed on the rear axle. I just got a pr of the same ones from Fred at wheeladapter.com and they seem awfully tight. Did you need to grease the axle or use a hammer/mallet to pound them on or did they just slide right on?

i sent him an email but I would like to finish the project today and I don't want to bugger anything up...

thanks,

-d
