Ford Reverse Sensing

Does anyone have the Ford factory reverse sensing system and an Aluminess rear tire carrier?

I am wondering if they work together, or if the sensing system senses the spare tire and gives a constant alarm.

Thanks!

Re: Ford Reverse Sensing

Its funny you should ask, last week I reinstalled my factory ford reverse sensing equipment (2008) on my new Reunel Bumpers. I have a large box and tire hanging off the back similar to an Aluminess bumper and it still works fine. But.. since my bumper now sticks out less than the tire I have to use it as only a early warning device and cannot back up until the tone goes solid like I used to.

Re: Ford Reverse Sensing

Hi - Any chance you can post a photo of your bumper with the reverse sensors installed. I have a new E350 at SMB East that's has the reverse sensing system and I'm replacing the factory bumper with an Aluminess bumper. We've had some discussion back & forth between myself, Nancy at SMB and Kenny at Aluminess on whether or not the sensors will work properly or the tire and/or box will always set them off.

It's good to hear you're setup is working and I'd like to share a photo of the placement of hour sensors so I can ask Kenny to mirror the placement of the sensors and avoid the tire/box always setting them off.

Agree I'll still have to be careful in reverse as the tire will likely extend further out than the impact point of the rear bumper.

Having never seen an SMB in person (never mind an Aluminess bumper) I'm "learning as I go along" in the design and build of my SMB.

Re: Ford Reverse Sensing

Not the factory sensors but SMBW did a after market on mine and I highlighted the placement in this pic. I also had them install a switch so the thing wouldn't alarm all the time while pulling my trailer.

I don't remember what SMB charged but after that bumper destroying a Altima, I didn't care. Now I really wish I had a camera that had an alarm as well. That's the way to go.

Give SMB West a call but Rob and Randy's company did the install. I'm sure you could find a auto/stereo/alarm shop to do the job.
