Re: Fox Shox from SMB

We just installed some today, customer could tell an immediate difference. 2014 van with ~20k on it, he's happy.

PatO, if you're keeping up with this thread, let some air out of your tires, you're essentially riding around on rocks that no shock will help. Assuming your tires are rated to 80 psi, try running front-55-60, rear 60-65, I run mine on the lower end 50/55 for daily driving and put a little more air in them when doing long highway drives, I've got Ramsey's fox shocks and really like them.

If my van weighs 12,800 loaded, would tire pressure under 80 psi be ill advised? If I like go lower, how low would you suggest? I never went below 70 psi.

I have reduced my tire pressure and it has helped the ride a bit.

If you want to read a spirited discussion on airing down E-rated tires have a gander at this: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/t ... res-E-or-D

I post on portal as stormlover. My Mud and weather site handle and my biking forum handle rockman was taken. JoeH just seems so bland.

Anyhow, I air down my E-rated Duratracs (3650lb @ 65max psi) to 45F and 50R for daily driving and for a long pull on the hwy I bump it up to 50 and 55, respectively. If I was going to pull a heavy trailer I might run the max psi.

Re: Fox Shox from SMB

Hey guys - I'll chime in on this one.
I'm the guy who oversaw buildout on Buffett's "Green Tomato" EB Adventurewagen topped Sportsmobile - and I drive it down south and take care of it for him in the winter (a nice perk).

We just put on a set of Fox Shocks and the steering stabilizer on the van. It has airbags on the back and had Rancho shocks previously. The difference with the Foxes was pretty incredible. No matter pressure in airbags (we keep 'em low 15-20PSI on the road), the van used to bounce quite a bit from front to rear over bumps - and a few times driving up I95 over bridges with bad joints, it could get downright scary. These things cured that. It doesn't drive like a car, but it does drive like a completely different, and far more pleasant big green beast. Excellent damping, stability and the ride is just noticeably smoother and less jostling. I think anyone driving a heavy SMB 4wd equipped rig would benefit from these things.
My two cents.
