Fox Shox vs. Rancho XL 9000
Last spring SMBW announced a shock and stabilizer package from Fox Shox designed for their 4WDs and available from the SMBW store. I've been thinking about getting SMBW to bring some to Expo to buy as I'm headed toward new shocks and would add the stabilizer. However, SMBW is installing Rancho XL 9000s on their new conversions. The Ranchos get good reviews; understandably, there's nothing on the web about the Foxes. Has anyone installed them? Does anyone use our know about the Ranchos? Any thoughts on how they compare?

I had Rancho 9000s on my last truck and they seemed good enough. After about a year the little adjustment dials started having problems though. The Van has the Agile RIP upgrade which has Fox Shocks and those shocks are, in fact, the cats ass. They do cost more but at this point I would just rather not fiddle with things like an adjustment knob.

Purely subjective, but I never cared for Ranchos.
I also believe Fox shocks are fully rebuild-able, where I don't think the Ranchos are.

A better comparison would be fox and bilstein. I've had rancho's on several vehicles including a short stint on the van, I wouldn't particularly recommend them.

I ran Rancho 9000s for a few years after my Deaver springs- smashed one rear and switched to Fox remote res in back. Seemed way better, I was having to crank them all the way up most of the time. Then the Ranchos in the front failed and I swapped in some used Fox that I got off a member and it was 1,000 times better (partially due to the blown shocks, but partially because I never really felt like the ranchos were right no matter how I adjusted...)

While FOX 2.0 Remote Reservoir shocks are a great shock, they come from FOX with minimal valving in them and really don't do enough in the rear of a heavy van. They have almost no low speed valving for rebound control which is the opposite of what we need.
They can be rebuilt and revalved though and they are very high quality.

Yes, I had them valved on order and the fronts came off another SMB.

10,000 lb vehicles need 2.5" shocks IMHO. Direction I took with no regrets whatsoever.
