And what to be exact was your poor judgment that caused this to happen?
The upgrade has been done, along with the Dynatrac big-brake kit since I was replacing a lot of stuff (the break took out the spindle, locking hub, hub, etc).

The shaft snapped when in a river crossing in deep mud. The tires were spinning a bit as we bogged down, and the front right must have suddenly gained traction on submerged rock and snapped with the shock load (lockers were engaged). It was not such a violent event that I even made much note of it at the time; it was not till I went to unlock the hub that I realized it was broken (as the dial was sticking out about 1/2" and convex).

Attaching a photo of the broken shaft compared to the 35 spline replacement.
