I want to chop off my transfer case lever - Am I crazy?

My transfer case lever blocks the drivers seat from rotating and makes it very hard to get in and out of the drivers seat from inside the van.

I'm thinking of cutting it off a few inches above the floor and then fitting a 4 or 5 inch sleeve about 1/2 way onto the severed handle. I'd stow it under the seat and slide it on over the stub when I need 4x4.

I'm looking for opinions on why this is the most brilliant idea you've heard all week or totally insane.

If that is the only thing stopping your seat from rotating, cutting the lever seems like a reasonable solution. Certainly worth a try.

"I wabt ot chop...."

I'd love to have a hangover. That goes away in about 12 hrs. I've got a nasty case of the flu that promises to hang out with me all week.

And now I know that the spell check does not function in the title section.... There - fixed it.

Re: I want to chop off my transfer case lever - Am I crazy?

I recall reading a post some time ago about someone that had removable Atlas sticks to enable rotation of the driver's seat. If memory serves, they screwed on and off.

How much clearance do you need?

A. make it a shorty... chop and put a knob on.

B. Make it a Jeep TJ/ZJ/XJ style:

by which I mean bend (mark/remove/heat) it near the floor and make it go forward parallel and close to the floor for leverage. In 2wd, against the floor, you can spin the seat. In 4x4 you likely won't be worried about spinning the seat.

Another example, my F250, it's not quite L nor against the floor, but a shape like this could get you out of the seat profile:

Re: I want to chop off my transfer case lever - Am I crazy?

Bill, I don't know about Quigleys, but my van shifted very smoothly until they pulled the engine and T-case (I think) to do the bed plate gasket. Now it's much stiffer and harder to engage. SMB has been all over it but can't find any problems. I Guess if needed, you could always do a custom job at a later date if problems show up.

Good luck.
