Maxtrax MK2 best? Is orange best? Prices.

Hi all

Are Maxtrax MKII the best of that sort of thing? (Recovery boards)

Is Orange the best color? For general “not leave one behind at night” etc.

For sand and snow.

And.... I see them for $299, shipped, various places in the USA. Any better deals to be had from a legit seller?

I remember reading Maxtrax was coming out with a new version that has metal studs that are replaceable. They are more expensive though.

I bought the II version and they work well on my heavy van. They are about the same price everywhere but I picked mine up off of Ebay. $299 per pair with free shipping. The 20% off Ebay coupon that was live at the time saved me a lot of money. Final price was about $480 for four boards.

Here’s an option from forum member Mark(MSD), I got a set but haven’t had a chance to test them out yet. Had a set of Treds prior that busted under the weight of the van the first time I used them. These look to be very well made.....and at a great price to boot!

So I have a set of those traction boards from Mark. I have not used them on my van but they have been used a few times on 4 runners.

My only complaint is they do not stack as low as MAxTrax, so they take up more space.

Other then that compliant they have held up well so far.

Another company that makes recovery boards is Actiontrax - https://usactiontrax.com/
One version with plastic teeth, and one version with replaceable metal teeth.

I bought two pair with metal teeth from Amazon...they're currently unavailable thru amazon (the Actiontrax website shows availability, but it was more expensive). With a vehicle as large as a E350, I wanted to be able to replace teeth.

I would not go with any recover boards made out of plastic. Our rigs are just to heavy for it.

I use metal boards (aluminium-original army stuff) that i use now for more than 30 years with a lots of recovery on different vehicles. They last, they are not much heavier and they take less space.
Some month ago i was realy deep in the sh... so i had to use my 4 army boards and 2 of the orange maxtrax of a friend. This plastic things were nearly useless as the where to soft. Also aftzer that one time using lot of the "pins" where broken and there was a chrack in one of his boards.
For simple recovery on sand they do there job i am shure but for serious recovery it is made for light vehicles.
My resumee after that.....useless stuff for lots of money
But thats only my 2ct.
