I’m using the original crossmember on my 7.3L van and the clearance for the front driveshaft looks tight.

Did others modify their crossmembers for the front driveshaft? It looks tight but like it might work.

Per MG:

-Does the cross member need to be cut? Yes, there is some trimming necessary to accommodate the trac bar mount and provide clearance for the differential. A set of trim templates are provided (make sure they print at true 1:1 scale). After trimming, reinforcing the front of the cross member is recommended for vans that will see excessive off-roading.

Sorry I should have been more specific ... I’m talking about the transmission crossmember and the clearance between that and the front output of the transfer case.

I’ve already modified the engine crossmember per the template!!

Got it, should have posted both at the same time:

-What about transmission cross members? On vans with the 5R110W trans, no changes are needed to the trans cross member. Vans with the 4R100 or 4R75, expect to have to make some modifications to drop the trans down and for the front driveline clearance. We dealt with these on a van by van basis in our shop and therefore did not make any templates or take notes.

wild-kiwi has some good pictures of what he did. I'll probably do something similar. https://www.facebook.com/4x4-Expedit...4629379129449/

Yeah -- that's basically what I have in mind as well. Thank you for the message and link to that.

The clearance is tight -- so I wanted to see if I could get away without a modification like that -- but it isn't hard to do -- so I'll just make the modification and cut away what I need to.

Looking for confirmation on a 4R100 replacement in a 2002 Ford E350 7.3L PSD. I assume I should be looking for a 99-02 4R100 4wd non-pto unit for a F250/F350.

Can anyone confirm?

Any suggestions on a trusted builder?

Yep.

I'm sure it has to be a diesel model too.

You can convert your 2wd tranny to a 4wd. You have to replace the main shaft and the tail section. If your thinking about buying a 4wd tranny and rebuilding it, might be cheaper to rebuild and convert the one you have already, plus you know it will connect back up just fine.
