Awesome and glad to see the discussion on it. ESOF is on the list for...eventually, but the floor shifter is clunky and awkward with no real positive click when it goes from 4H back into 2H.

I'll be honest -- just wire up a light that is only activated in 4HI/4LO that way you know. I haven't looked at my Tcase recently - -but I am pretty sure there is a electric sensor on the NP271 that is activated in 4HI/4LO only.

It's a lot better than having your stepper motor go bad and getting stuck in 4LO... probably less of an issue with a new R&R NP273 -- but it's happened to me on other vehicles and removing the stepper motor so you can manually shift out of 4LO with a wrench is not fun nor easy -- especially when you're likely on some pretty gnar terrain if you're in 4LO anyways.

I'll take a manual shift over ESOF anyday -- even if I have to lock the hubs manually!

I've seen this debated several times, and didn't really appreciate it until I rebuilt my Dana 60 front hubs, and later my BW1356 t-case. Youtube is full of videos with guys replacing the seals in their vacuum operated locking front hubs, and t-case motors at what I would call 'alarmingly high frequency'. They never fail you in your driveway a mall parking lot on June 1st. When you shop for replacements, there's all kinds of options at very competitive prices, which is very telling.

Ford sells trucks that other people have to maintain. Pushbutton 4x4 is very attractive, until it craps out at the worst possible time.

You haven't received the entire 'got the tee shirt and hat' experience until you've had your van stuck in a dry lakebed w/12" of fine silt, and had to dirt-dive while figuring out how to manually shift the f&%king t-case into 4x4. I know a guy who's had to do that...

Nailed it -- no shade to people who go ESOF -- but manual shift has its allures too.

You can even make a threaded shift knob so you can still swivel your driver's seat. Score.

For what it's worth.... in an emergency, you could shift a NV273 ESOF tcase manually if you had some basic tools (10mm socket and an adjustable wrench). The shift mechanism is pretty close to the same as the manual tcase, it just has a gear reduction motor sitting on top of it. Pop the motor off and the shift shaft is accessible.

No one really wants to have to do that but a little familiarity with the components isn't a bad thing if it comes down to getting out of a bad situation.

Yes that is good advice -- if you have ESOF you should know how to do that -- even though you hope you never will. It's a lot cheaper than paying for a trail recovery...

A mallet/hammer is a good thing to carry too -- sometimes you can wake up the encoder motor with a few swift bangs!!

hi everyone.. I'm getting ready to install my kit after a really really long time of it sitting around! I just got back and this is exactly the only thing I want to do. Let me first start by saying, thank you all for the wealth of knowledge on the install, especially those of you who put up explanations with pics!

I think I'm pretty set up with the exception for one thing. I can't get a hold of a 6.0 oil filter relocation kit. I did find one for $500 but I'm hoping there is another option out there.

How did you guys go about rotating / relocating the oil filter. Any ideas, leads, or solutions please.

Documentation

I received my MG kit a few weeks ago but didn't get any documentation. MG hasn't responded to email.

Where can I get an inventory of what was supposed to be in the kit so I can confirm I got all pieces? Is the parts list Karma posted on page 2 the complete list of other parts needed for all vans, including my 2011 CNG E-250? Is there an installation guide (like Rough Country ships with their kits) or has someone blogged the process with pictures?

Sorry...I've been backed up on emails. I responded to your email this morning.

How did the dual stabilizers work out for you? I am running a single but am thinking of moving to a double to reduce front end wobble when one wheel hits a bump, and tighten up the steering a bit.
