Turbo, any idea when you might be attempting this?

According to fordpartsgiant.com the VSS sending unit for my 2002 van and the 2003 F350 is the same part number F85F9E731AB.

That's a great question. Aiming for spring time. Van is put together and running, so would like to take it out on a few trips before tearing in to the diff ... again.

I just finished my first 1k miles and I have to report that the van looks badass, feels right and drives great. This kit is awesome and thank you all for your contributions on here, very helpful.

More importantly, thank you Michael for the awesome kit and your support.

Agree with lilnuts, always love hearing positive outcomes, especially these days!

vss trouble 4R100

This is my first post here, lots of great info.. wonder if anyone has run into the same issue I am having! I am working on a 2003 E 350 with 7.3 and 4R100. After swapping the super duty axles (2009) and having the trans converted to 4x4 it reads 50 mph at 10 to 15. get out on the road and speedo just goes wild right up to 80. The transmission is shifting in 2,3 od and maybe lock up.. tries to stall the engine at around 30 actual mph. My scanner also shows the speed why to high. Both speed sensors check out good in trans as well and rear diff sensor. I am wondering if there is a calibration for different ratio but one jump down in ratio dont seem like it would cause speedo to be that far off.Maybe the tooth count on the out put shaft ? I dont know of more than one output for the 4R100. spinning my wheels on this one! any input would be great!

Sounds like you don't have an Electronic Ratio Adapter installed or haven't modified the tone ring? There is a difference between the 2wd van output shaft tone ring and the 4wd shaft tone ring so the speed sensor signal needs to be modified to compensate for the differences.

Electronic Ratio Adapter (ERA)

This device is wired inline with the sensor to modify the signal.

Thanks for the reply! can I simply swap the tone ring or order on to match the 2wd?

If you click on the ERA link that MG posted it’ll show you the converter. Michael also clued in how to wire it up, “inline.”

I still don’t feel like my ERA is dialed in though. I’m on 35”s and my new axles have 4.10”s in them. The van still feels like it’s way too high on the rpm band and my speedo can be jumpy. I’ve had numerous vehicles with 4.88’s with both 35”s and 37”s that didn’t feel this wound up on the Highway. And by wound up, I mean the higher rpm’s.

the ERA is an easier solution than modifying the tone ring.
