more about tires - 16" wheel on 4x4 2006 Quigley?

I have been needing and wanting to upgrade my tires/wheels for sometime, with awesome input from the forum.... I have decieded to to with a metalmoto 957 rim with a 285-305/75R16 Firestone Destination AT, as I do 95% highway driving and no major 4x4. ( I want the MT's or Nitto's but im fed up with the road noise of my Mickey Thompsons)

So I asked Quigley about the largest tire/rim combo and they state that a 16" will not clear the larger brakes. And they dont recommend anything over their 265s

--------
Anything larger may rub when turning or twisting..
Blake you mentioned going to a 16" wheel this will NOT fit over the 4wd front axle we currently use. The front brakes are to large to accept a 16" wheel. I would suggest a 17x8 0r 18x8 with proper back spacing ( 5" to 5.5" ) as the widest wheel to put on your van.
------------

Is this true of my 2006 4x4 Quigley? I havent read anything about this on the forum. I wish to have more rubber under me when I switch as it rides way way stiff.

Re: more about tires - 16" wheel on 4x4 2006 Quigley?

i have never received any incorrect info from the folks at quigley.

I am going to run 17 inch wheels 4.57bs with 33 inch tires. I'm sure i will have to do some trimming but that is OK.

16 inch wheels will fit on my 2003. I am not sure which year they had to go up to 17 inch wheels.

I am running 16" on my 2002 Quigley, but I would trust Quigley if they say you need 17". As for tire size, I am running 33" (305/70R16) with a 12" tire width. Next time I will go with 33" again in a 285/75R16 to get to an 11.5" width and reduce rubbing. With suspension articulation I (barely) get rubbing at times on the fender flares. At full lock I rub on the frame with the 12" Goodyear MT/R tires.

If your Quigley came with 17" wheels, then stick with them. If it came with 16" wheels, run what you want.

Yeah, good question, what's on it now?

I want (wanted) to go to 17s just for the ability to then go with a brake upgrade, but the cost w/ tires was prohibitive so if I ever want to go with the larger brakes I'll have to do rims and tires at the same time.... essentially meaning it's a good thing to have to go 17 because it probably means better brakes.

16" fit on my 06 quigley, that's what the stock spare is. I got it with 20" 305/55/20 tires, but just went to 17" 285/75/17. The 305's rubbed the control arms so I put a spacer on the steering stop, now with 285, there is a ton of room so I have my full steering back.

Mine (305s on SMB4x4/Deaver) rub too but I won't put a spacer because I'd rather have that little bit at full lock when I need it and just not turn the wheel that far when I don't. Can't guarantee that won't tear anything up ever, but all of my offroad vehicles rub (have rubbed) slightly in the same way due to oversized tires... guess I'm a creature of habit!

Interesting.

I don't know what came stock on my 06, but will check the spare today. I have 285/70 17's on now and they rub the fender wall very bad. See my gallery, about 1/4" in mid turn, not full lock, which is fine.

Input and I have determined that this is due to the 4.25" backspacing and making the wheel travel further on a circle, rather than pivot.

It had started to chuck the tires, that's why I did it, I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
