Re: More Quigly 4X4 problems

I remember reading an article, quite a few years ago, in a well known 4-wheel drive or off-road magazine where they were replacing super duty hubs with Warn hubs. They specifically addressed the snap ring size difference. What they did was to double up on the snap rings (two each side instead of one) to make up for the difference in size. They gave thickness dimensions of the snap rings to show why doubling up would work. If I can find the article, I'll post it for anyone who is interested. Don't remember at the moment which magazine it was.

Re: More Quigly 4X4 problems

I found the magazine. It is the June 2001 issue of Four Wheeler mag. The article title is "Installing Warn Premium Hubs on a Super Duty" on page 98. I don't have ready access to a scanner but can take a picture of it if anyone is interested. Bottom line... the Ford OE snap-ring is .125 thousandths thick and the Warn measures only .06 thousandths. So doubling up gives you .120 which is close enough to do the job!

At least you'll have somewhere to sleep.

Breaking down in remote areas is bad whether it's a "Ford" part or a "ship-through vendor" part. In fact the vendor might do better to send you a part in Mexico, for example.
