My hub fell off...

Just had to vent. When we arrived at the take out for a raft trip in Idaho, I found that my passenger side Warn hub was gone...for who knows how long. Our SMB was shuttled 385 miles by a shuttle company.

Duct taped over the internals for the 3 hr trip to Boise. Then $234 for a new set. ugh....

How the hell does a hub come loose anyway?

I guy with a wrench comes along at night and undoes all the bolts and it falls off into a bag and gets carried away to fall 'on' another truck maybe?

Didn't you just have your bearings redone and an axle seal replaced? My guess is they didn't tighten it down all the way?

Re: My hub fell off...

Should not just "Fall off" as there is a snap ring behind the cap. In order to get that off you have to pull the outer allen bolts then the snap ring.

Re: My hub fell off...

More than half of the threads on my first set of Warn hubs were stripped.

Re: My hub fell off...

Even if the outer part fell off the snap ring sould hold the inner part inplace.

Re: My hub fell off...

Found my problem today. I took apart the hub and found the inboard snap ring had failed. This allowed slop in the hub which I suppose led to the hub jiggling enough to loosen all the retainiing allen screws.

Did you end up doing the work yourself? I know Badgertrek has a great tutorial on the hub redo. I am thinking of undertaking it myself but am intimidated by the process and proper tightening / order of parts.
