Nitto vs. Toyo

Ok, we digress...

Toyo A/Ts are $50 more per tire than the Nitto A/Ts. The Toyo has a 65,000 mile treadlife warranty. The Nitto does not.

I can't imagine a tire lasting 65k on my van. But, the warranty and extra cost imply better life than the Nitto.

The question is: Is it worth a 25% bump in cost?

I guess if the treadlife approaches 65k, the answer might be yes based on Jage's report on the Nitto treadlife. Has anyone got a bunch of miles onthe Toyo A/Ts? Can they realistically go 65k?

Re: Nitto vs. Toyo

I've never got over 35K on BFG's or Toyo's but have found mud tires go quicker compared to AT's. The 285 MT Toyo's seemed to melt away. But I don't do too much snow driving compared to muddy trails and besides I like the looks of the MT's plus my van is heavy. A friend is using Micky Thompsons and claims they have lasted over twice as long as the Toyo's. If they make a load range 315 that meets proper use on my van I might go that route next time.

Re: Nitto vs. Toyo

I have had both. Started with the Nitto A/T which came from Sportsmobile. Got about 28k out of them. They were slippery in the mud and in snow I was not confident with them in those conditions.

I switched to the Toyo M/T and they grip great! No problem in the snow and mud and I felt really confident with them. However there is always a trade off. The Toyo M/T like to dart and not track well at all. I added steering stabilizers to the front to help but they still had a mind of their own. The Nitto however steered straight and held the road surface great with no wandering. I also have Toyo A/T on my suburban and like them a lot with no wandering. Not the same weight as the van but they are a great tire in most conditions. The Nitto was D rated and the Toyo are E rated.

Here is my van with the Nitto's on it A/T

and here it is with the TOYO M/T

The Toyos look great but they can be squirrelly.

Re: Nitto vs. Toyo

The Toyo MT-285's I had were all over the road and never changed much even after they were rotated. The Toyo MT-315's were bad for the first few hundred mile then mellowed out much better but they don't corner as well. I'd think taller rims would help with the cornering.

Nitto vs. Toyo

Ok how 'bout this question:

Has anyone ever cashed in on the 65k tread life warranty on the Toyo A/Ts? Did they laugh at you when they saw your van?

Has anyone thought to try to call them out on their tread life warranty?

Seems universal no one has seen a tire go past 40k. 65k seem laughable...
