Re: Quigley issue 4-Low Lever disengages going uphill

"If none of those suggestions work I would recommend getting a crate motor, new transmission and transfer case."

Priceless!

Re: Quigley issue 4-Low Lever disengages going uphill

My rig had this issue before I picked it up and the PO had it at Quigley for some other work and they said they adjusted the linkage and moved some piece of metal that was hitting it. Didn't say where from. It stays in 4L just fine now.

You might give Tiger @ Quigley a quick call - he is super helpful and knows them inside out.

Tapatio has mistaken my rig for a 6.0 apparently

Quigley replied today. They recommended what you guys mentioned above. Remove boot and check the clearance for free movement of the lever. Will investigate further. Thanks all. Will report back.

Turns out I had a bad Trans mount that was creating 3" of travel. New Trans mount installed. Will test 4 low again in my next outing

Think there's any connection to the issues you were attributing to the trans?

I hope not. That would give me the worst case of buyer's remorse for buying that rebuilt Trans

Re: Quigley issue 4-Low Lever disengages going uphill

I had the same issue with my van that was converted at Advanced 4x4.
I took the boot off and trimmed the hole in the floor. I checked the linkage
and everything else and it still popped out of low range. I even pulled the
transfer case and took it to my trans guy and had him go through it.
I was milling around in a pick a part yard one day and started looking at
various Ford 4x4 rigs that had auto transmissions and BW 1356 transfer
cases. I found a shifter linkage setup on some vehicles that had a gated
plate between the trans and where the shift lever mounted. This shift lever
mount has a tab on it that slides through the gated plate. You have to push
the shift lever in towards the seat and then pull it into the shift range you
want. That seemed to solve the problem of it popping out of low range.
