Quigley tow hook mounting brackets

Here is a question for all you Quigley owners. Does anyone have a picture of the mounting brackets for tow hooks that Quigley offers as an accessory for $80? I am trying to figure out how to get a tow point on the front of my van that won't cost too much. The welding shop that I deal with can make brackets that mount to the bumper mounts and then plasma cut holes in the bumper to have the steel go through and then mount a shackle into the steel. I would rather not do that if I can avoid it.

Thanks
Darryl

Re: Quigley tow hook mounting brackets

What are you gonna tow with those? I'm not sure what they use for brackets either, but those kinds of hooks aren't particularly robust for towing. I wouldn't tow MY van with 'em. I've got a couple bolted to a plate that also holds my winch, but they're for pulling light stuff, not winching my van or towing it.

I'd consider the solution by your welding guy. Mine told me essentially the same thing, and showed me the consequences of a cheap bolt on. The fenders on some vehicles, like maybe your van, are bolted on to stay on, not to tow the van. That's why you put a hitch on the back. I'd see if the guy could do you a front hitch; they're fine for towing and useful for cargo and other stuff.

Re: Quigley tow hook mounting brackets

It is just if I need to get a pull out of the ditch or mud if I get stuck. There is no place to pull from now. I don't really want a hitch on the front but not out of the question.
Cheers

Darryl, I'd be interested in seeing these as well. I'm considering a front hitch mount but am open to something like this if they are fairly robust. Have you tried hitting Quigley up for more detailed info? They've been pretty responsive in the past when I've had questions.

Re: Quigley tow hook mounting brackets

I don't know if the Quigley conversion uses these holes for something else , but my Ford has a series of holes in the front frame that were used to install a front bumper. I don't see why you couldn't use those holes to install a recovery point.

The hitch installer used nuts that have a long tab on them that allow positioning inside the frame. Not sure if they are generally available or if custom made, but they work great. See about getting a few of those, a recovery hook, and some high-grade bolts and you should be set.

That said, I don't see any downside to a front hitch apart from cost maybe (and a bit if extra weight). They open up a lot of extra options, from recovery points to cargo carriers to winch mounts.
