Re: Quigley Van spare tire carrier for 33's question

Yeah, that seems like a nice design. Maybe a bit heavy, but I guess you need that with a beefy tire. I like the way it has supports on the sides, and attaches to a regular receiver. Although I might like a bit more lift.

I haven't worked much with bearings, so I'm having trouble figuring it out. Are there pre-fab'd ones that could just weld onto say 3-4" steel channel? kinda like a hinge? So that you have a bar or rod coming up from the fixed channel below and the hinge/bearing welds to it and swinging channel?

I don't have anything handy 'round here to compare with.

Re: Quigley Van spare tire carrier for 33's question

I came across this the other day
http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/Ti ... e-Kit.html
and am seriously considering picking one up this week to start the build. Bought a step bumper for van today from local U-pull yard, got a little welding to do on it but when I get the bearing assembly the rest of the fab should be fairly easy. The site also sells a kit as well as just the bearing assembly.
