Rear Axle Specs
I'm building a custom rear axle for my rig. I'd like to get the axle completely built before removing the old one so I'm wondering if anyone knows what pinion angle I should set and the rear spring spacing on an E-Series.
Thanks

Re: Rear Axle Specs
Depends on lift height, is it stock?

Re: Rear Axle Specs
Ha! We have a process to set the pinion angle, we don't weld anything until the axle is mocked up and under the van. if you're not changing the lift height then you can just re create what you already have if you're looking to ave it already to go before installing.

Re: Rear Axle Specs
The Deavers lifted the van more than 1", so the "stock" angles are gone. Plus the rig has a saggy butt I want to fix which will lift the rear even more. If I just make sure the pinion angle matches the transfer case angle, am I golden?

Re: Rear Axle Specs
Set the van at the ride height you expect to have after everything is done. Measure the angle of the output shaft on the rotating assembly (crankshaft, transmission, Transfer Case) - if you are using a standard two u-joint drive shaft than the pinion should be pointing up the same number of degrees as the output is pointing down. In other words the lines through the center of both the output and the pinion shaft should be parallel.
If you are using a double cardan joint drive shaft, then the pinion shaft should be pointing up at the double cardan joint.
In all cases you do want some angel in the u-joints.

Re: Rear Axle Specs
What baja said!
There are quite a few good diagrams online if you want a visual reference.
