Skid Plates

We are currently waiting for our new SMB and I am thinking about what I will add to it once I get it. Are any of you running skid plates? If so where did you get them? I know the SMB has a ton of clearance but the oil pan and trans just seem so naked an vulnerable.

I've been thinking of more light weight protection for all the accessories under then van, rather than heavy duty protection for the oil pan, etc. Something to keep the rocks and crud from getting at things like compressors, flat plate and the like, or at least slow it down. Some expanded steel would go a long way toward protecting some equally expensive -- if not so incapacitating -- stuff. Better yet if the frame work could be combined with something like scatter's rock rails. I'm more likely to bash in a side than punch a hole in the oil pan.

I’m worried about the Starcool condenser. Maybe some wire mesh or a plate with holes to allow mud and whatnot to escape without blocking air flow. I still would have to be able to do a maintenance spray down when needed. The Flat Plate seems exposed also. But so far, no problems.

Skid plates

I agree with daveb. That Starcool crap will be the first thing to get smashed. I would not have gotten Starcool if I knew how much extra stuff it involved( all vulnerable) Hell, I might take it all out!

I would not worry about the oil pan, it's way up there.
