Re: Sportsmobile 4x4 on a 7.3 Diesel

2003 was the last year the 7.3 was available AND the first year SMB offered the Atlas / ProRock drivetrain - of all the decisions I made, passing on this for the more "proven" Quigley drivetrain was a HUGE mistake. The 7.3 is an awesome power plant that is going as strong as ever - had a bunch of issues with the Quigley drivetrain - engage sensor, uj's, et all. 3 strandings!!

Re: Sportsmobile 4x4 on a 7.3 Diesel

I also agree that there was a short window when the 7.3 PSD and the SMB 4x4 availability overlapped. I had that choice but I waited for the 6.0L because I wanted that 325 HP and other newer technology - hahahaha!!! That was my huge mistake. Of course the original 325 HP went to 235 HP once it went in production. Ouchie.

Re: Sportsmobile 4x4 on a 7.3 Diesel

I have both a Quigley and the SMB. IMO the SMB suspension build/tuning is excellent and that is where it has an advantage.

On the other hand, I think the use of the Atlas II cuts both ways. I've learned that the t/c (NP261HD) on the Quigley is plenty strong and is MUCH smoother than the Atlas. I've also spoken with driveline specialists (when thinking of adding an Atlas to the Chevy) who say it is not the best choice for such a heavy vehicle, especially in the context of doing expeditions and driving a fair percentage on the road.

The grass is always greener on the other side...

Does anyone have an Atlas II TC that doesn't or never leaked?
