Tire Replacement Question

Hi Forum:

While in NW Canada this summer I punctured a tire with a 1/4-inch bolt about 1 inch in from the edge. I have the BFG RO A/T tires with about 14,000 miles on them. I was able to get the tire repaired, reinstalled it on my SMB, and completed the trip--about another 2000 miles with no further problems. In my subsequent readings, it sounds like repaired tires are not recommended for continued service. I am happy to replace the tire but wanted some input from y'all first.

Many thanks

If you don't already have a full size spare, I would replace the tire with the new one and keep the repaired one as a back up. I always carry a full size spare for my van, heck when I get a new rear bumper I may carry two depending on where I am going.

Given the weight of my van and where I like to go, I'd swap it out for a new one.
