Tire\rim question

I am thinking about switching to the OEM black steelie 16" rims, anyone run those. Any idea what size tire would be good, 295, 305. I have 315's on after market 16" rims now and they are ballons.

Re: Tire\rim question

245 is the max recommended tire size for that width rim. If you run wider tires on a narrow rim, handling will be worse.

Me thinks you won't like the looks of that, but to each his own. You can byuy decent black rims pretty cheap too. I bet you could sell yours on CL and easily make enough to buy a set.

I really need to meet up with you... I talked to you on the phone a few weeks back about looking over my van before I go to interior to make sure I am not missing anything. I just haven't had time to stop by your shop, I have been short staffed at work and have not been able to pull away.

Fox suspension, tires and rims, pick your brain - I will have to take a day off next week, I will give you a call to see what day you are around.

Thanks,
Scott

Maybe, I would sacrifice looks for a safer, smoother ride.

Thanks for the info, that answers that question and WOW that is small- that would look ridiculous.

Re: Tire\rim question

Why steel over alloy? They may be stronger, but if you are hitting something hard enough to break an alloy you're probably gonna have at least a bent steel that won't hold air. And all that unsprung weight. Yuck. I can understand if that's all you've got but why not just a smaller tire on the aftermarket rims? or did I miss that, and if so, sorry.

Re: Tire\rim question

Providing they meet your weight capacity requirements, you could run 235/85R16's - a tall skinny tire - on the stock wheels.

How wide are your aftermarket rims? I had 16"x10" rims but went down to an 16"x8" rim so that I could run a tire narrower than a 315 (even 305's are typically recommended for a 9.5" max rim).

I happily run LT285/75R16 tires on my stock Ford steel rims painted black. That's what came on my van from the Sportsmobile factory (except they provided plastic hub caps).

Still, yeah, they do look kind of small.

That's a good point about the unsprung weight. I should look up how much of a weight difference we're talking.
