Tired of changing sway bar bushings?

Tired of changing sway bar bushings on your Ford Dana 60 front axle?

Me too!

According to the Ford truck forums, guys are going through them about every 15k-30k miles. Mine, the blue urethane ones (supposed to be the best out there, by some accounts) only have 15k miles on them, and are about done.

I whipped these up a couple weeks ago, from slippery Delrin (acetal high strength plastic), uses the factory mounting holes.

I mocked them up a couple days ago, less stiction than the urethane ones, they will no doubt be longer wearing. We'll see how they perform after I get this thing back together.

If you disconnect your sway bar as soon as you quit pavement, bushings last much longer. But it's sometimes boring to go under the van so often. That's why I'm thinking of installing some remote disconnecting system like on Jeep. Would be nice for those of us who often go offrading...

Chris, that should be on your to do list of new U-Joint accessories to offer soon...

It always sounds like a great idea, disconnecting the swaybar.

I looked at the Jeep swaybar disconnects, too, after learning some of the Rubicons came outfitted with that very cool feature, push button, swaybar disengaged. But I decided my project has already gotten waaaaay out of hand "oh, while I'm replacing this, and I'm at it, I'll just fix this. Oh, while I'm fixing this, I'll add that, and bake it better. Now that I made it better, this thing interferes, and now I have to move that over..." it's been never ending, but I've build several racecars, I'm used to it.

Youtube has a couple good tutorials on how the Jeep disconnect operates. I also came across a company who makes a replacement box, that eliminates the electric servo and logic board, and replaces it with a manual knob, for Jeeps.

Yes, I know! I was just looking at some bushings for a new style sway bar over the weekend that will be easier to disconnect.

We recently did some flex testing with & without the bar connected, the difference is 1.5" of travel at the hub.

Good News !
On VLV, it's definitely more than that, about 3'' difference with all the weight...
