Transfer Case noise question

Just a quick question about my TC. How much noise should be comming from it when decelerating? I went to use it tonight in the snow and it sounded strange when I engaged it. When I accelerate or am under power ir sounds fine. When I let off the gas and slow down it has a noticible noise. I don't remember it from the last time I used it which was during the summer. Just curious if it is something to worry about. Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Darryl

Re: Transfer Case noise question

Is it a rattle type noise or kind of a whine? I would disengage and re-engage it and try again. Make sure nothing is laying against one of the sticks.

Re: Transfer Case noise question

It is more of a whine. I did engage and disengage and tried it a couple of times, no joy. It is not a grinding noise.

Re: Transfer Case noise question

Darryl, mine does make a slight whine where the pitch changes with the RPMs/MPH on downhill grades. I'd go try it again and see if it was fully engaged. I've also had an empty soda bottle touch it and amplify the sound...

Re: Transfer Case noise question

I finally found out what the noise was. The front drive shaft bearing in the TC blew up. There is nothing like the mechanic coming to tell you that there are metal shavings in your TC oil. I have to say that when I told the conversion company they stepped up and will get it fixed. They are arranging with a shop in my town to fix it so I don't have to send it back to them. That's what I call Great customer service!

Re: Transfer Case noise question

How many miles were on the Transfer Case? Is there a reason that caused the bearing to fail? Is anything in your drive train causing a vibration that could stress the bearing? Was it leaking oil from any bad seals?

Re: Transfer Case noise question

I'd like to know if it was an Advanced Adaptors TC.

Glad you found the reason for the noise but I also would like to know why it failed.

His signature shows he has a Clydesdale 4WD Conversion. Does that mean Budweiser 4x4?

Good questions. The TC has about 6000 miles on it with extremely light use. No vibrations that I have noticed. The seals are perfect. No oil leaking at all. I will see the parts when I get it fixed next week. I will have more answers then.
