U-Joint Offroad built van

I see a lot of do it yourself U-Joint Offroad 4x4 conversions. How does one judge the quality of the build, especially if thinking of buying one remotely? I realize at some point a pre-purchase inspection needs to be done, but can potential problems be seen without substantial field testing?

That might be a good question for Chris at Ujoint.

You're asking how to tell if the conversion was installed properly?

Yes, without having to do extensive field testing.

I have a matrix of 6 or 7 vans I have been researching. Trying to learn as much as possible before buying. This is not a small investment and there is a ton of learning to do. Experience is the best and that is what I am trying to tap into here with as much respect as possible. 6.0 or 7.3; gas or diesel; Quigley, SMB or ujoint; DIY or prebuilt; value vs market. Yes, lots of questions.

What about a Chevy or Sprinter? Not in your matrix? What is so great about the Ford? What if a Quigley Transit popped up?

Have you even driven one of these vans yet? Man a test drive tells you a lot!

I have looked the the Transit. Visited Sportsmobile West and spent 2 days looking at all options. I live in the tropics and will be spending most my time off-road in jungle, rivers and mud. The Transit is nice, just too large a profile. I like the Ford and Chevy RB because of the lower height, and I don’t need a lot of storage, only enough for me and camera gear, maybe an inflatable kayak and SCUBA diving gear. Also diesel is cheaper here, but I need the older models because of the high sulphur content.
