Un-even Tire Wear

Could anyone give me tips or ideas for diagnosing what would cause my rear passenger side tire to wear significantly faster than the others.

Vehicle is a 2006 E350 6.0L PSD with a Quigley Conversion, No Interior upgrades other than my own, no secondary gas tanks, and no weight distribution changes or mods (IE Racks on one side, cabinets on one side etc...).

The other three tires seem to have a solid 1/8th to 1/6th inch more of tread left on them. With the other rear tire having just a hair less than the fronts.

Any ideas?

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

I'm going to guess you haven't been rotating your tires every 5-10K. If it is wearing evenly, no cupping or signs of misalignment, then that tire may just have a slightly different rubber compound (different batch?) and they are all wearing normally.

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

That tire is your power tire, and for us it produces more heat than any of the other three.

Rotation will be important, as will tire pressure. Keeping the tire pressure in the higher range towards the max cold pressure should help keep tire wear even and slower.

There are ways to perform a 4 wheel alignment on many vehicles, but I have never heard anything about it for vans.

Power tire???

Are you guys pullin my leg, I have never heard of such a thing? Doesn't the rear diff distribute power evenly ?

Egads I have done about 12k without rotating on fresh tires... that seems like a pretty frequent rotation requirement. Considering in the summer I put on an easy 15-25k.

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

4wheelparts will void my warranty if I don't rotate every 5K miles or less. Just a thought.

As for the rest...

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

Rotating your tires will only fix the symptom, not the cause. Even with rotating, the increased tire wear will cost you in the long run. It'd be nice to know why this is happening.

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

Jage : If you could edit that post I made to read "Rotated within warranty requirements"

Now I guess its time to do the rotation...

Geoffff : Contrary to popular belief in my town, I am not a complete dumb ass! I was already aware that my tires needed to be rotated, just not at those intervals. Which like you mention brings me back to the original post.

Not to but ... Power tire is the only suggestion so far on why that tire is treading faster. Pressures are dead on and even all around so that should not be a factor. Anyone else have an idea, ... softer leafs on one side???

Driving the wrong way around NASCAR racetracks, making only right-hand turns?

Re: Un-even Tire Wear

Do you have the wheel spacers on the back axle? If so, maybe the one on that side is causing your wheel to be out of alignment
