I remember reading an article a couple decades ago in a 4x4 magazine about if you got your vehicle in a situation where you needed to move it sideways to get out of a tough spot. Their suggestion was to jack the vehicle as high as possible with both wheels (front or back) off the ground and then push the jack over. I don't think that I would do that with our SMB...

I've had to do that with my jeep before when I was stuck in some bad ruts and high centered. It works like a dream. Just get the back end nice and high and then push it over out of the ruts. Repeat on the front end.

I remember reading a similar story of two women competing in one of the early Baja 1000 races. They were driving the wet sand at low tide along a beach and got stuck. As the tide was rising and threatening to swamp their rig, they used the method you describe to walk the rig sideways up the beach until they got to firmer ground and headed on their way.
Agreed, I wouldn't feel comfortable trying this on the van!
