Re: Winches...again

Why did they pull the grill and the headlights off to install a winch? Were they installing other things too?

Re: Winches...again

As far as a hitch receiver mount style, I’ve never seen a hitch receiver winch mount plate rated at more than 9,000. Have you guys?

I looked as well and 9000 was the heaviest I could find.

Re: Winches...again

After looking at the picture I can see why they had to pull the grill. The grill hangs out over the bumper partially covering the winch compartment.

With the winch installed can you still get the lid back on the winch compartment?

When I installed the 12.5SR in my bumper I got rid of the plastic solenoid housing and bolted the relays and solenoid directly to the inside wall of the winch compartment.

Remote solenoid, relay and remote plug location

I used the side your winch electronic pack is located to bolt in the relays and fuses for the driving and fog lights.

I also rigged up a fairlead cover to help keep road splash off the synthetic rope.

If I had it to do over again I would probably get 2 more light mounts from Kenny and mount all three lights up high. Having the two side lights that low to the bumper makes it real tight to get the winch compartment lid off and on.

Re: Winches...again

We had to remote mount solenoid taking off the backing plastic which is what normally mounts to the winch itself. Then using its own bracket we mounted it on the right rear wall of the bumper with three screws so it is solid. I also wanted it easier to connect winch controller so we moved it up as high as possible so that cover would still go on. Also re-routed the air chuck higher so it is easier to use.

Sure it would require you to actually work, but as many others have said they rarely use the electric ones so it would hardly be used...
Having used one of those to recover a Scout from light mud... ah, no. That's a backup tool for holding a vehicle while you recover it from a side hill maybe, or stretch fence. Hi-Lift is 10x better, however you have to reset a lot and still doesn't compare to a winch.
