Advice for patching a hole in our fuel tank..

Hello- Someone apparently punched a small hole in our Sprinter’s fuel tank while it was parked on the street, allowing diesel to drip out. The hole is very small, maybe an eighth of an inch. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for repair? Even knowing the exact material that Mercedes uses for the fuel tanks would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Most "plastic" fuel tanks are made of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE or XLHDPE). You may find a marking somewhere molded into the tank that denotes the material.

It's so small, how about a stainless steel screw covered with a Diesel proof sealant, maybe with a sealant covered washer for added security?

It seems like that would work. I guess if it didn’t I wouldn’t be in a worse situation than I’m in now.

The best long term fix would be to drain the tank drop it down and patch that hole with the appropriate apoxy possibility JB Weld?
