Advice on turning off 2007 Sprinter maintenance messages

I'm wondering if anybody has any sage advice on resetting 2007 Sprinter maintenance messages.

For both my 10K and 20K services, I have gone to Mercedes mechanics to do the work rather than the dealer, who has been roughly twice the cost. For the 10K service, the shop had no issues turning off the "perform maintenance now message" that activates at 10K miles. For my 20K, it has proven more difficult. The guy that did it last time has left, and I was told "it takes a special machine with special software", and appears to be something that most shops don't know how to do. I can reset maintenance indicators on my other vehicles through button sequences without any special equipment - does anybody know if this is possible with the 2007 Sprinter?

I checked on the web, and there are a few suggestions, but by the replies it looks like people have been unsuccessful. Plan B would be a reputable place near Santa Cruz, CA that is experience in doing this. "All RV" near my house will do it for $60 if all else fails.

This thread over on sprinter-source has instructions on how to reset the service messages. It appears the instructions only apply to Sprinters with steering wheel buttons so YMMV:
