Re: Loss of power and acceleration

Replaced the Turbo Resonator with an aluminum one. Everything seems to be okay now.
Anyone in the north bay area that needs work on a diesel Sprinter I would highly recommend Collie Automotive in San Rafael. They specialize in Mercedes and were very familiar with the 5 cyl diesel.

Re: Loss of power and acceleration

Greg,

Glad that they were able to fix the problem and thanks so much for the Sprinter mechanic recommendation. I really try to avoid dealers when I can.

Re: Loss of power and acceleration

I had replaced the turbo resonator with the aluminum one a couple of years ago on my 2007 SMB sprinter 2500. Even with the new clamp, it had the same issues on Donner pass in the Sierras halfway up and I had to downshift and putter up to the summit at about 35mph.

My return back from the Reno area the next day, it cruised up the mountains well. Just yesterday the same event occurred coming back from Arcata on mountainous roads, suddenly starting about 2/3rds into the mountain stretch.

Power was greatly compromised and I could only climb at about 35 mph in 3rd gear. On the flat freeway later I could cruise with some effort at 60mph , but every overpass caused slowing.

The next day , after a good nights sleep the engine ran fine and could cruise up long grades with no problem.

I suspect it must be a transient computer glitch in then engine computer as suggested in the sprinter forum. Perhaps the turbo boost is inactivated... ? No engine errors registered and I checked the turbo hose and aluminum clamp and did not see any gross defects.
Smarter minds might sound off.
Thanks.
