Otter, I just got around to finally fitting my Yakima roof bars to the CCV unistrut. As you can see in the photo, the bar is just shy of clearing the MaxxAir fan. I placed the Unistrut shim in the photo to show how much higher the bar could be if that were used. It works out to 1 5/8" higher with the shim.

I'm pretty happy I don't seem to need the shim. The top of the crossbar is about 3/4" above the top of the fan. The bars do flex a bit with the weight of the raft frame, so I'll have to keep a close eye on that when I load. Also have to remember to not use the Maxxair fan with gear on the roof!

Whoo hoo, Bardo, you made it! Looking at that extra unistrut shim, though, it seems that would have been fine, too. Either way, you’re in the clear. Cool! I’m waiting for someone to help me with the hole-cutting for my fan. My confidence is low on this one. Well, actually, fear.

I'd really like to do this to my pop-top too! Definitely not for the faint of heart. I'd like to put mine above the stove, so just behind the pop-top handles and pad at the front. How does one make sure there are no wires or other structural beams you should not be cutting through?

I have a EB pop-top from 92 and it is not the strongest. It visibly sags down at the front and rear close to the bolts. I re-did the bolts with the ones made and sold by @Gooseberry and raptor lined it a couple of years ago. Will cutting this hole and accessing some of the wires in the top for power be possible without removing the top bolts? i.e. removing the headliner wood without removing the top bolts again?

We do make adapters for pop tops. They will help reinforce the area where the vent is located and also conform to the curvature. Plus help make sure you cut the hole right.

@Hein I'm looking at putting a Maxxair in my SMB PH top, too. My top is flat (not ribbed)... what would your adapter do to help the install? Reinforce the cutout or something? Do you have a photo?
