I think you answered your own question. I have a 2005 Chinook Concourse. I have been threw 4 of the Fantastic vent fans and imo those are garbage and i will never buy another. I replaced them with the 10 speed Maxx Air remote unit in the living area and the manual unit in the toilet. I can say the lid opens and closes much quicker than the fantastic fans, it is also better built in terms of having two arms supporting the lid versus one on the fantastic fans (doesnt flop around in the wind). Not sure what benefit the 10 speeds have because anything below the highest speed is pointless in regards to any volume of air being moved.
The remote is nice in the living area because no one wants to get up and down everytime they want the fan on or off, but a remote in the toilet is pointless because your already standing up if your going into the bathroom or shower.
So far i havent had any issues with the Maxx Air remote fan, the rain sensor has only shut the lid on me once so far and thats because the wind was blowing so hard it was blowing the rain sideways into the vent.
Also in regards to fantastic fans, the rain sensors are a big pain in the a**.
Once it shuts you will likely have to wait hours before you can open it again. Even to much humidity will cause them to close. But the main issue with them is the cheap switch they use under the lid to cut power once the lid shuts, its screwed into plastic and is contantly coming loose and then loses its ground rendering the fan useless until you tighten it up again, which ultimately results in the plastic threads being stripped and a useless fan.
