Mounting batteries under 2020 Sprinter

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone has mounted their house batteries under a 2020 2500 Sprinter in the spare tire location? Is this a good or bad idea? Seeing as the van will have a rear tire carrier I thought the factory location might be a great place to mount batteries. That way it would keep them from taking up room inside the van.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Darryl

Lots of people have mounted batteries where the spare tire is located and can comment on that specific location. I mounted four Battery Born 100Ahr batteries under the slider doorway step. They are mounted on their side to stay above frame rails. This location is closer to van alternator and driver seat for electrical connections and has worked out very well. I monitor battery, outside and exhaust temps and the batteries have have always stayed well within their operating temp range with ambient temps from -5 to 112F. From my experience leading battery cell manufacturing engineering at Tesla, these batteries will outperform lead acid batteries outside and is a fine option to save space inside as well keep CG lower.

The original owner specified three Optima Blue Top AGM batteries mounted upside down under the unit, squeezed in between various frame and body members. The SMB mounting hardware was acceptable but not a confidence builder. Replacing them is best performed by two people, one of which better have some upper body strength to hold a battery in place while the other secures a metal strap across the battery.
