Screen Room

Has anyone with a SMB-nstalled Fiamma awning successfully modified a Thule screen room to fit it?

The issue is lack of a channel on the van-side of the awning holder. The Thule awning has one. The screen room uses that channel. There are also differences in channel location on the awning bar away from the van, but there are easy ways of making that work.

I see a channel (made by Dometic) for sale that goes on the van and is held there by a magnetic strip along the roof. The mounting that SMB used for the awning would clearly interfere, but I'm wondering if anyone has successfully either mounted a channel where it would not be a problem (under the existing awning holder) or by cutting the magnetic channel into 3 pieces to avoid the supports for the Fiamma awning.

The rest of the screen room looks easy assuming that the van-side gets adequately attached.

I rains a lot here esp. in summer, and bugs come with the rain. While Fiamma has a room, it looks very cumbersome. The Thule one seems much better designed if it can be made to work.

Thanks

As far as I can see, the 2 Thule van tents differ only in width. The Fiamma mounting issues would be the same with both. Given my awning, I'd go with the 3m one ( the one that is slightly more expensive).

I am not talking about this onej

I don't think that is available in the US and I think it is heavier with more parts and pieces to fuss with. Fiamma makes something similar and having watched a set-up video on that, not a good option.

I've been looking at the Thule wall mounted options with the tent or the rain screens accessories, Michigan is full of bugs in the summer as well and it would be nice to have the extra room outside of the van, time to start saving $$ ! Anyone know of other manufacturers outside of Thule that has a tent or screen attachment? The Swedish Thule site has a lot more options.

Fiamma has one. It looks very heavy and difficult to set up. There is a video on the Fiamma website.

I have rejected that one for me, but it might work well for someone who is going to stay in one place for a long time.

I had a Fiamma room. Massively overcomplicated and heavy. It was like carrying around a 10 foot tall punching bag.

Had a Fiamma screen room which WAS huge and tricky, but manageable for longer times. Weakness was sealing under van; snap skirt on door side provided, but didn’t want permanent fasteners on van lower edge. Internet info indicated that to actually attach Thule was $$$$$$. Getting a well designed screen tent seems most efficient to be able to leave over picnic table/camp furniture and drive away.

Feel the same. We only use it when parked for a long time. It's big and takes time to setup and break down.

I spent a lot of time researching a screen room for the awning and couldn’t find anything I liked or that didn’t seem like it would not be a major PITA. I ended up with a Quickset by Clam popup screen room. I love this thing. It sets up in a couple minutes with just one person and packs down almost as quickly, into its carry case that fits nicely in my van garage. They come in a range of sizes. Mine fits over a picnic table. I waterproofed the roof and seams, just to be safe and the thing has worked out great.
