Spare tire space underneath

Anyone know if a 275/70/17 tire will fit in the spare space underneath? Most folks go with spare mounted on the back with the larger tire upfit but I'm comfortable with keeping the spare underneath if it fits.

We're having the Agile Offroad RIP and new tires will be mounted on Roambuilt Rims. Designed for 275/70/17

Hmmm, 275/70/17 is a bit unique tire size, most seem to be running 285/70/17 (33" tire) --- so will give you an answer based on the 33" size:

Answer:
It all depends on length of your van.
(And assuming you are talking about an E-series Ford.)

EB: Yep, fits no problem (from what most have reported.)

RB: Fits -- but only if:
1) You have no rear frame-mounted hitch installed
or
2) The frame-mounted hitch you have installed is one of the variety that has an armature that is "V" shaped when looked at from below. The added "V" kick rearwards at its center is *just* enough to allow the 33" tire to fit. The hitches that have a straight-across structure do not allow quite enough room for the tire to squeeze rearward of the axle.

Sorry, posted under Sprinter chassis but the vehicle is a 2017 Sprinter 4x4 144 2500.

I know SMB has been able to fit the 265 underneath. The depth isn't an issue as it just requires a longer bolt. It's all about the width/height. From Agiles info we're talking a 32.2" tall tire. The Roambuilt wheels take that tire and are tailored to the Agile RIP.

I have a question in to Brian re replacing the cage with a custom built new cage that will hold the largest tire that will fit there. He and I have a phone conference Thursday at 10:00. I'll post here what he tells me. Due to CCNR/HOA rules, the max I can be is 21' 3". I'm also asking Brian about mounting the spare directly to the driver side rear door, both in terms of structural integrity as well as length that configuration would be.

TomH, good info thanks. I spoke to Brian briefly about this and if it's just a matter of modifying the cage SMB can do that. If that is the case I'll send the 5th rim to them and have them work the spare.

Closing the loop on this. Agile Offroad will modify the cage to take a 275/70R17 tire on a Roambuilt wheel.

I believe from my conversation with Agile Roambuilt has the experience in this.
