If the tow capacity was high enough (8-10,000lbs), I would have considered one when I was looking for a conversion van.

I think there is definately a market for 4x4 Sprinters in the US. If given a choice of a Sprinter van that gets 22-25 miles per gallon verses a Ford van that gets 15-18 mpg the Sprinter is going to get a serious look. The Ford's larger engine will be faster 0-60 and have a higher towing capacity, but for lots of people that will not be that important.

Maybe you can export the 4x4 kits you receive in RSA to a USA based conversion company.

Salem Kroger had several Sprinter vans that they were in the process of doing a 4X4 conversion on. Two were ambulances, and a third was a plain color and I couldn't tell what it was going to be used for. They looked very nice. oclv

I wish the Sprinter got 22-25. 19-20 maximum is the real number. I will post in the next week or so on my blog the mileage we had on a 32 day trip to the Arctic Circle and back.

Regards,

Keith

My brother got 19 flat towing a Jeep from Indiana to Colorado, dropping to 17 going East to West over the mountains. Apart from the obvious effect of the mountains vs. the plains his choice to go at slower speeds (especially over the mountains) has a lot to do with it. Still I don't think my Ford SMB would get 19 no matter how I drove or what I loaded.
