SUP weekend - OutsideVan spot

Way back last year when I first wrote about my sprinter build and intended purpose I mentioned I was going to use it to transport SUP (Stand Up Paddleboards) from time to time. Along with our new boards I purchased a Thule Hullivator from REI and ordered it since the store was out of stock. Of course the thing arrives in a box that has been resealed at some point. Of course said Thule Hullivator was also broken. So anyways I sent that back and now the thing is on backorder.
That was not going to stop us from our maiden voyage out on the lake so we simply loaded the boards right into the back of the van. On the way to our destination we stopped by the store we bought the boards from and look what pulls into the driveway as we are waiting for the store to open:

This outsidevan build was brand new and picked up in January. I’d have to say the new owner really decked the thing out. It was way in line with a Chumley build in terms of all the bells and whistles this thing had. The roof rack on this thing was bombproof. This guy has already had 6 boards at once on the roof. I also really like the front bumper with the class 3 hitch receiver and light bar he had added. I need to get one of these for sure. Added bonus – easy access to wash the windows…

Not so side by side picture:

After we said our goodbyes the wife and I headed to the lake to get out SUP on. All in all great day

Re: SUP weekend - OutsideVan spot

Hey Tony,

Those Outside Vans really look special. I was really hoping the guys at SMB would do some more cosmetic stuff like this van. There are also some nice touches like dash cover kits (quality ones) that could be nice.

SMB could really do something special with some simple interior and exterior stuff that would really make their products very individual for their customers.

I am on the verge of ordering one of those grill guards but struggle with the cost right now. As you know, I have been so practical...

So do you SUP on moving waters too? Coming from a but paddler...

Thanks.

Re: SUP weekend - OutsideVan spot

We are sticking to open / flatwater for now. We would need a different type of board (either an inflatable or hard shell) to SUP whitewater.
