Just wondering if anyone has experience towing a wakeboard boat at 5000-5500 pounds with their sprinter, or 4x4 sprinter? 144 high roof that is. I know the published max is 5000, but I think all in, I'd be right at that or a freckle over it. I've searched over at the sprinter forum and see some instances where they might be over 5 but not sure. The drivetrain is the same for the 3500 so I assume it's the rear axle that's more robust to allow the 7500 rating? The vast majority of my towing would be short distances, like 10 miles round trip. Just wanting experiences or opinions on this!
Thanks, j
I can't answer your question, however one tidbit to consider is that a 2WD 3500 can have the dual wheels swapped out for super singles. When you do it, they also use a slightly narrower wheel well inside the van. To be clear, this is not an option on the 4x4. Anyway, this could put you into a higher tow rating without having the dualies.
I am not a sprinter fan but this is no roblem at all! In germany we can tow up to 7700lbs without any upgrate at the vehicle. Just depents on the towing hook. So no worry the lady will make it ;-)
