Volta Power Systems

Heard on another group that Winnebago is officially announcing a new lithium ion/second alternator/big inverter electrical system for its new Travato class Bís. Itís made by Volta. Supposedly itís a completely integrated energy management/electrical system thatís more powerful, compact, durable and easier to use than anything else currently available. I know, big claims but I wondered if any of you guys have heard much about it. There are good descriptions of the different ďkitsĒ at, supposedly good for retrofits too.

Initial look is promising! I think the more that is out there the better. I am set with the newest offering from SMB West of Lithionics/Xantrex but the two packages I downloaded from Volta certainly show promise. Interesting on their LVL 2 package they promise up to 8 hours of A/C running. The full-blown package says you can run the A/C through the night. I only looked briefly, but didn't see where they equated their "Energy Storage Pack" with a specific battery size/Ah. I'd like to see that as a cross-reference to the current (2) 300Ah batteries or single 600Ah battery that SMB West is offering.

I believe the Volta System will be the system of choice as more manufactures move to lithium based systems. The 48 volt system helps reduce the inefficiencies of producing and transferring large amounts of power. The problems are at this point that is limited to two manufactures with Winnebago being the third. I am encouraged by their retrofit program, but they at the moment have limited available sites (4) to perform those retrofits.

I have not seen the latest offering from SMB, so this is no way intended to be negative towards their offering. I would love to see SMB jump on the Volta bandwagon. I believe the level 2 system would equate to roughly 789 Ah.

We are in the initial stages of design for the 4x4 Sprinter high top and I'll ask Brian about the VOLTA technology option. Was initially sold on it with AdvancedRV's installation but out of my price range and not a good life style fit.
Update: introduced Brian to Jack Johnson (Dir. Operations Volta). NDA exchange in process. If anyone with influence/input, please feel free to contact SMB. I believe VOLTA would be a good option to offer and SMB could be in a unique position for this market.
