Big dust coming in the back doors

When I first got this van we did some camping. I noticed a lot of draft air coming in the back doors when sleeping back there. Off roading in dusty conditions brings in a tremendous amount of dust. Does anyone else have this experience?

Dust in the back is a big problem when I travel to central and eastern WA and OR. I was just in central WA last weekend and the very fine dust hangs in the air for a long time. I was on roughly plowed dirt roads, so it was more of a problem than usual. While it doesn't fix the problem, using a cover over the back are a helps a lot. Just shake it out at the end of the day. A cover would help for sure. My last van, a 98, didn't have this problem. I'm going to try adjusting it tighter. They seem tight now.

If I found myself in an intolerable situation like 500 miles of dusty road, I'd have to run duct tape around all the seams. It is a duct right now.

As a southwest desert camper forever, I know what dust is all about. The solution is easy. I added an extra layer of stick-on rubber weatherstripping all around the rear door seals. It's not 100%, but almost.

If you have the underfloor storage hatch and its full of dust, check the perimeter seal and that little bung hole plug in the bottom.

We have a 2004, and have not noticed any dust coming in through the rear doors. We spent 3 weeks on dirt roads in Utah and Colorado in May, and no dust came in (knock on wood). The bikes on the rear trailer hitch rack were constantly a mess, but the weatherstripping seemed to work. oclv
