My rear doors were badly in need of lubrication after my dusty SE Oregon trip. This weekend I oiled the hinges and it made a big difference. I also wiped down and greased the mechanism (not sure what it's called) shown in the center of the photo.
The lubrication did the trick on the hinges and now the doors open without the bad creaking that was happening. The problem is now the mechanism shown "pops" loudly when I open the doors to the 90* position. It is a loud metallic click and you can observe that it happens as you open the doors through the last bit of travel to 90*. Is this normal? It wasn't doing this before.

That's the door limiter that prevents the door from opening too far, it tends to snap into place once fully open, and it should't be an issue. By the way, using oil will attract dirt and grime, but a dry lube like silicone spray doesn't.

Thanks. I wondered if the previous buildup of old grease and dirt was deadening the sound of the door limiter and by cleaning it, the crisp snap/click was much more apparent.
Will try some dry lube next go-round.
